This privacy policy explains how Wide Open Gear(“we,” “us”), published by Type 5 Marketing LLC, handles information when you visit this website. We’ve tried to keep it plain and honest. If anything is unclear, contact us.

The short version

We don’t sell your data, and we don’t ask you to create an account. We use privacy-respecting analytics to understand which pages are useful, a contact form that emails us what you send, and affiliate links that may set a cookie when you click through to a retailer. That’s essentially it.

Information we collect

• Analytics data.We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how the site is used — which pages are visited, roughly where visitors come from, and what devices they use. This is collected in aggregate and used to improve the site. Google may set cookies to do this; see Google’s own privacy documentation for details, and use the controls below to opt out.
• Contact form. If you use our contact form, we collect the name, email address and message you submit, so we can read and reply to you. We use this only to respond to your message. We don’t add you to a marketing list.
• Server logs. Like most websites, our hosting provider may automatically record standard technical information (such as IP address, browser type and pages requested) for security and to keep the site running.

Affiliate links and cookies

Some links on this site are affiliate links (see our affiliate disclosure). When you click one and visit a retailer such as Amazon, that retailer may set a cookie to attribute a resulting purchase to us, so we can earn a commission. This does not cost you anything and does not give us access to your payment details — the retailer handles the transaction under its own privacy policy. We never see your card information.

How we use information

We use the information above only to operate and improve the site, to respond to messages you send us, to keep the site secure, and to earn affiliate commissions that fund the site. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it except with the service providers that help us run the site (such as our analytics and hosting providers) or where required by law.

Your choices

• Analytics.You can opt out of Google Analytics using Google’s browser opt-out add-on, or by using your browser’s cookie controls or a content blocker.
• Cookies.You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The site will still work, though some analytics won’t be recorded.
• Contact data.If you’ve emailed us and would like us to delete your message, just ask via our contact page.

Children

This site is intended for a general adult audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
