Beyond the tripod, add a way to fire the shutter without touching the camera — a remote release or, if you don’t have one, the camera’s 2 second self timer— so pressing the button doesn’t shake the frame during a long exposure. And here is one that catches people out: if your camera or lens has image stabilization (IBIS or OIS), turn it off when you are on a tripod. Stabilization is designed to counter handheld movement, and when the camera is already perfectly still it can hunt for motion that isn’t there and actually introduce a small blur. Settings: low ISO, moderate aperture, RAW

Shooting RAW is the answer — it records the full color information and lets you settle the balance afterward.
